Dr. Luis Puchi

Biography
Dr. Puchi’s interest in addiction medicine started years before he received his M.D. from Cornell University. Before medical school, Dr. Puchi worked in the addiction treatment industry and started several sober homes for people recovering from alcoholism and drug addiction.
Around the same time, the FDA approved a combination drug, buprenorphine/naloxone, to help people suffering from opioid addiction. Even though this medicine has now been available for over 20 years, a strikingly small proportion of patients who would benefit from it have ever been prescribed any MAT drug.
Decades of research has shown the benefits of MAT. Dr. Puchi started Qwits to bridge the physical, financial, and social gaps that keep patients from seeking help.
As a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician, Dr. Puchi has worked on the front lines all over the country, and has seen far too many people die from what is a treatable chronic medical condition.
“I believe in second chances, and not giving up on anyone who truly wants to seek a better life.
A life of addiction is a difficult one. The barriers to treatment put up walls around people who are already in their own prison. I am hoping that we can help knock those walls down, and hand our patients the keys to let themselves out.”
